Sri Lanka is home to a mixed variety of food and hence is a country supportive for all taste buds. Since Sri Lanka had been influenced by many traders and invaders in our history, we are now catering a large variety of food – ranging from Indian to European to Western including vegetarian meals; hence will give you the opportunity to find yourself discovering new tastes as well.

Commonly found are Sri Lankan authentic food and Chinese. However, if you are not comfortable in having either of them, you can always find an abundant variety of fruits and buns everywhere in the Island.

Sri Lankan Rupees (Rs.) is the local currency of Sri Lanka. The denominations found as coins are Rs. 1, Rs. 2, Rs. 5, Rs. 10 and those found as notes are Rs. 10, Rs. 20, Rs. 50, Rs. 100, Rs. 500, Rs. 1000 and Rs. 5000. It is best for you to break down larger notes to Rs. 100 and Rs. 500 as it would become a hassle changing larger notes when purchasing souvenirs and other material.

Visa and Mastercard are the most widely used type of credit cards by many (not all) local establishments. However, ATMs of different local and international banks in Sri Lanka support some different credit card types. It is advisable to carry Sri Lankan currency in hand than a credit card, which could be used in an emergency.
